3D replay
Every car’s real position, as recorded by the official timing system, replayed on a 3D model of the circuit. Drag to orbit, click a car to follow it.
Where this data comes from
F1 cars carry transponders that report their position several times a second. Formula 1 publishes these positions, together with lap and sector times, through its official timing feed, and the open-source FastF1 project makes the archive of past sessions available. StatChecked draws the circuit from the fastest lap’s trace, including elevation (exaggerated so hills are visible), and interpolates every car onto a common half-second clock. The scenery around the track (grass, trees, water, gravel and buildings) comes from OpenStreetMap, matched to the timing data’s coordinates.
The timing tower is rebuilt from lap times as the replay plays: in a race, cars are ordered by laps completed and then by who crossed the line first, the same way the official classification works. Want the raw numbers? Open the same session in race data for lap times and telemetry.
